Greg hails from Makhanda (Grahamstown), Eastern Cape, South Africa. Inspired by early street, documentary, and correspondence photography, Greg took up photography while completing his Masters degree in Psychology as a practice of Art Therapy.
His style is influenced by childhood exposure to National Geographic, Life, Time, and other major photo publications and media he read throughout his childhood. Later influences came from South African photographers such as David Goldblatt, Santu Mofokeng, Andrew Tshabangu, Peter Magubane, Obie Oberholzer, Greg Marinovich, Joao Silva, Ken Oosterbroek, Kevin Carter and Cedric Nunn,
Greg has previously exhibited single photographs at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum (2008), and The Athenaeum (2011).
Greg’s first body of work exhibition, In(terstitial)Sight, took place at the National Arts Festival (NAF) in 2023. He presented a selection of 35mm street photography images taken between 2017 and 2023 in his hometown of Makhanda.
The most recent exhibition was presented on The Fringe at the 2024 NAF from 20 – 30 June. Entitled, Humble Apologies, the exhibition featured a selection of images shot on 35mm black-and-white film using only a Canon A-1 camera and 50mm lens. The project specifically focused on the failure of the local Makana Municipality and the socio-economic impact of service delivery failure, unemployment, and change.
